What was happening in 1998.
Living in Brisbane, Queensland.. I was one of the founding members of Women and Art (WandA) and participated in a number of interesting exhibitions with a highly motivated, interesting and switched - on group of fellow artists.
Art in the Park was a Sunday art market in front of the Queensland Art Gallery which always drew an interested and supportive crowd. Trips to Byron Bay to meet up with old friends and enjoy the laid back atmosphere were always delightful. Strong colours and the use of vertical and horizontal lines begins to filter into my work. A growing awareness and interest in Aboriginal Art and artists fuels a new direction and political awakening. The characters in the paintings are frequently attempting to engage with the audience and the feeling of containment is evoked by the way the figures are contained within the frame of the canvas.
