This work is about accepting disappointment. When something one has one's heart set upon slips away. Then you need to be grateful for what you have managed to "catch', because you have something. She sits on a geological formation that shows the strata of passing time, in the overall scheme of things, patience is what we need.

This work explores the concept of positive thinking in a more conceptual and minimalist way. The thinker has been depicted as a simple form, placed within an ambiguous yet solid form.  The attention is on the eyes which are the “window to the soul”, in this case they are looking at the “headline” and the seeds of thought that stream from his mind resulting in the sprouting of an idea that is joyous and light. The red line that links using a purely graphic treatment, the heart with the head, encourages the viewer to move around the work and connects the elements. Resting confidently within the headspace is a “young” voice that suggests he think of the glass as being half full.

A vibrant work that uses bold colour to create a resonance around the energy of thought, creative thought. The path of coloured energy that runs down the centre of the mind is the flow and movement of ideas and the head waits for the 'decision".

The idea of one's heart and mind being separate at times of stress, anger or disappointment and to protect oneself, the walls go up and soon one loses that essential connection we need to function truly. Then one needs a gentle reminder from the voice in ones head and maybe a small gesture to connect back to the heart, a step ladder that links them again. The surrounding landscape is bright but fragmented and the space within which the body/mind inhabits is unreal but evocative of a place. I enjoyed working on this piece, and I hope it will serve as a gentle reminder to me and anyone who resonates with the work, that it is important to stay connected to one's true self.

In Between the Lines, the bird has become one with the mind or head and watches resolutely, determined to find the truth for herself and the world outside. The vibrant background suggests that we are often dazzled by the myriad of information we are expected to negotiate through in our daily lives. The strong, centred being stays still, alert and focused. The open eye looks keenly and without prejudice. This work is available from Without Pier Gallery.

A strongly,graphic image that describes the hopelessness that I imagine a man condemned to death would feel. The face has no mouth, symbolising the fact he has no voice, when all power to choose, or express one's personal stance against reasonable odds has been taken out of your control. The background is bright, which is a metaphor for how much injustice occurs in broad daylight and expresses more acutely the solitary and blindness we are condemned to. Clearing the Mind is about opening the crack that represents hope and desire for change in personal growth and reaching a sense of authentic self. I have represented this by the journey of the 'shadow' that exists in our sub-conscious, reaching into the deeper part of ourselves and clearing away the accumulated debris that can cloud and rstrict us.

The space within which the person exists is now opened up and a way forward is possible.

This work is showing at the upcoming Rob McNamara Exhibition.

A moment of vulnerability and recognition of self. The solid, simplified yellow head sugests strength against a background of fragmented thoughts and feelings. The split lip represents words spoken that come back to bite you. His wide eyed surprise is the shock of recognition when we are found exposed and the need to reasses our sense of place begins again.

Surrounded by a resplendent garden with tall lush trees in the background, this painting is about harvest, effort come to fruition. Ideas, from hopes, planted like seeds have sprouted and the feeling of being trapped, which are the bars in the background are now green and transformed into trunks.

A colourless man strides blindly through this glorious forest, marking trees to be cut down. This speaks of the arbitrary decisions and the arrogance man has towards other living things, the power to decide what lives and what does not.

Two people are hindered in their ability to communicate due to the static of confusion in theor willingness to understand the other desite the fact that we all come from a common source, the cosmic soup.

This shows a home that uses the four elements of water, wind earth and fire. The shower drains into the vegie garden and the boy plays while his errant kite flies away.
