'As Within, So Without '
Saren Dobkins’ latest exhibition is a lyrical yet introspective exploration of her unfolding journey. Integrating three aspects; Sexual politics, Head Space and the pursuit of Courage, these bold, narrative paintings use metaphor to explore how our inner realty impacts on our outer world. Her strong colours and sculptural form are influenced by her African childhood, with a recent trip to the Arava Desert, Israel playing a definitive role in awakening a new approach to representing space and subject matter. The paintings are a fragment captured in time, as her poetic, emotive figures express a sense of self, as if caught unawares.

oil on canvas, $3200 Our past can appear like a vista, viewed from up high. A fertile land full of memories. Some are like precious fruit, and we pick them so we can carry them around with us, always there to be recalled.

oil on linen, $3200 Comfortably Numb is about taking stock of where one is. The horizon shows the heart beat, once rapid now flat. The rabbit, her essence, is small, immobile and crushed by the neglect shown to her soul needs. She sits, comfortable in the hammock and only when she gazes into the mirror, sees that she has lost touch with her spirit.
